Powerhouse Energy Group PLC (AIM:PHE) chief operating officer Paul Emmitt speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive London after announcing an important update in its application to European authorities for the granting of patents for elements of the company’s waste-to-energy process.

Emmitt gives an overview of the latest news, highlighting the fact that Powerhouse Energy intends to take advantage of the new unitary patent system that will allow it to extend the patent’s coverage to the whole of Europe, Great Britain, and Ireland with a single application. Additionally, the company has launched two other patents awaiting feedback from the European Patent Office.

Emmett expresses confidence in the approval of one patent soon, while expecting the other to take longer. The patents revolve around their innovative process of converting waste into energy using rotating cameras and steam injection.

Powerhouse Energy aims to establish their position in the market by securing international patents in the USA, Canada, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, and South Korea.

Amidst these patent applications, the company is also focused on constructing a technical center to build a pilot plant, allowing them to validate their ideas and develop new intellectual property.

Emmett anticipates the pilot plant to be installed and commissioned by the end of the year, and “up and running” in the first quarter of 2024.
